Place Jemaa-El-Fna owes part of its fame to traditional snake charmers. The imposture of their talent would only be magic if it did not induce the mistreatment of cobras, striking vipers and others, for the purpose of the perpetration of a very dubious medieval spectacle. Snakes are deaf and cannot hear music. The "charmers" therefore charm only tourists who are not informed of the real customs of these remarkable species. The vipers didn't react when the man touch them, they were dying or dead

sunset

When taken from the wild, most of these animals have their venomous hooks torn off, causing abscesses that cause slow, painful death. These snakes, as they are handled in Place Djemaa El Fnaa (and elsewhere), are forced to systematically adopt an absolutely stressful defense position, and they die ALL and without exception of exhaustion after a few months, two or three at the most.
