MOROCCO - Fez (or Fes)
Fez (also spelled Fes) is a northeastern Moroccan city and was the capital of Morocco until 1925. Today Fez is often referred to as the country’s cultural capital. Fez is famous for Fes El Bali, the walled medina, with medieval architecture, narrow streets, pulsating souks and old-world atmosphere. The medina is home to religious schools such as the 14th century Al Attarine or Bou Inania, both featuring sophisticated cedar carvings and ornate tile work. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is believed to be one of the world's largest car-free urban areas.
