ITALY - Naples
Naples is the capital of the Campania region and the third most populated city in Italy. It was founded between the 7th and 6th centuries BC by the Greeks and was named Neapolis (new city). Naples is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Its historic centre is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and is the largest in Europe and enclosing 27 centuries of history. Lying between Mount Vesuvius and the steaming Campi Flegrei, Naples is a very interesting city to visit.
You might also include Pompeii, Herculaneum, Amalfi Coast or Paestum, as well as Capri or Ischia Islands in your agenda.
Caserta is located at 30 kms of Naples and its main attraction is its Palace of Caserta (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The royal palace ("Reggia") was designed in the eighteenth century, recalling Versailles, was a residence for the Bourbon kings of Naples and Sicily.
