Funen Island
​Odense is the largest city on the island of Funen which lies between the larger Zealand island and the Jutland peninsula. As Denmark's third-largest city, it offers the traveller a mixture of an exciting vibrant night-life, beautiful street-scapes, great shopping opportunities and a rich cultural heritage.The fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense in 1805. When he was 14 he decided to try his luck at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. In Odense you can visit his birthhouse and museum, take a walk in his footsteps, and also discovering the city centre, full of sculptures which depict scenes and characters from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales
