INDONESIA - Kalimantan

Kalimantan is the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneoand is also called Indonesian Borneo. It comprises 73% of the island's area. The non-Indonesian parts of Borneo are Brunei and Malaysia with Sarawak and Sabah Provinces. Kalimantan means ‘Burning Weather Island’ as it is located close to t he equator and the weather is very hot.
Trekking, hiking and cruising in the rainforests are a favorite pastime in Kalimantan, but you might be disappointed as most of the original jungle was replaced by a secondary forest after extreme logging activities and also by the few wildlife you will see. With the deforestation, it is estimated that the Bornean orangutan population has decreased by more than 80% within the last three generations. The orangutans you might see will be semi-wild at the feeding stations, or under the control of conservation centers.
