INDONESIA - Kalimantan -

Palangka-Raya

Palangka Raya is the capital of the Indonesian province of Central Kalimantan.
The city was established in 1957 on wilderness that opened through the Pahandut village alongside Kahayan river banks. Palangka Raya is the largest city by land area in Indonesia. The city is not very interesting for tourists and we took a cruise to Tangkiling area where we didn't find any primary forest. We visited an orangutan conservation center, saw the orangutans on the islands during their adaptation period to become independant and we also see a new gold rush on the rivers with boats extracting the river bed and very probably release the dangerous quicksilver in the water.
