Quito is the capital of Ecuador. It was founded in 1534 on the ruins of an ancient Inca city. Nestled in a long, narrow valley in the Andes, between the the Volcano Pichincha to the west and the Machángara River Canyon to the east, Quito enjoys a spectacular natural setting. The Ecuadorian capital city’s mix of colonial and modern architecture creates a fascinating built environment. The historic old city is very charming with old spanish style houses and beautiful churches.

This Virgin statue is overlooking Quito on a 200 meteres hill called El Panecillo located between southern and central Quito. Its peak is at an elevation of 3,016 metres above sea level. The Virgin stands on top of a globe and is stepping on a snake, which is a classic madonna iconography. Less traditional are the wings, which makes her probably the only one in the world with wings like an angel.

We were not very lucky for the weather, but we can see a volcano with snow with few clouds.
A cable car is getting up on a mountain where you are supposed to see few volcanoes, if the weather is clear. Here the cloudy mountains and Quito in the valley.
