Riobamba is located at the Chambo River Valley of the Central Andes area and at 2754 m of altitude on the Avenue of the Volcanoes. The city is also situated on the Pan-American Highway that runs through Ecuador.
The city is famous for its close proximity to the Chimborazo volcano ( 6,263 m - 20,548 ft), but is not the highest mountain by elevation above sea level in Ecuador, but its location along the equatorial bulge makes its summit the farthest point on the Earth's surface from the Earth's center. We can't say it's a beautiful city, but the landscapes around are amazing.
Guamote is a small town (50kms from Riobamba) where they have a busy and colorful market where people from the countryside come.  It doesn't stand every day, so try to visit it in the morning.
