BRAZIL - Amazonia - Amazon -
Jungle around Manaus
Manaus is an access point for visiting the fauna and flora of the Brazilian Amazon. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests and comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest in the world. The Amazonian rainforests have unparalleled biodiversity and more than one-third of all species in the world live in the Amazon Rainforest.
Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest is a main issue and can be attributed to many different factors at local, national, and international levels. The rainforest is seen as a resource for cattle pasture, valuable hardwoods, housing space, farming space (especially for soybeans), road works (such as highways and smaller roads), medicines and human gain. Trees are usually cut down illegally.
So if you want to experience the real jungle and see the primary forest, you have to find a remote lodge, few hours from Manaus and even there, you will see houses and human activities. And less wildlife than the pristine rainforest.
