Wieliczka Salt Mine

The Wieliczka Salt Mine, also called "the Underground Salt Cathedral of Poland.", located in the Kraków metropolitan area. Opened in the 13th century, the mine produced table salt continuously until 2007. The mine's attractions include dozens of statues, chapels carved out of the rock salt by the miners and one underground lake. About 1.4 million people visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine annually. The Wieliczka Salt Mine was added to the UNESCO list of  World Heritage Sites in 1978.
