​​The principality of Monaco or the city-state Monaco and is enclosed in the French Riviera on mediterranean coast.
​Monaco is the second smallest independent state in the world (after the Vatican). Monaco is a principality governed under a form of constitutional monarchy, with Prince Albert II as head of state. The House of Grimaldi have ruled Monaco, with brief interruptions, since 1297. The official language is French, but Italian, and English are widely spoken and understood.
