FRANCE - Corsica - Bonifacio

Bonifacio is a town at the southern tip of the island and is very spectacular with the old town overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Bonifacio is separated from Sardinia by the Strait of Bonifacio. It is a city placed on the only major harbour of the southern coast and also is a commune covering a somewhat larger region including the offshore Isles Lavezzi.
You have to climb, or be lucky to find a parking in the "ville haute", to explore the citadel and historic old town with very narrow strets. You will be rewarded with amazing coastal views as Bonifacio is set high on sheer white cliffs which continue around the coast. You can see the famous 'grain of sand' rock in the sea just off the coast from here.
The Staircase of The King of Aragon (Escalier du Roi d’Aragon) is an amazing staircase carved into the vertical side of a limestone cliff. It cuts across the face of the cliff at a near 45° angle and is comprised of 187 steps.
