FRANCE - Cordes sur Ciel

Midi-Pyrénées

Cordes-sur-Ciel is a fortified town which was built in 1222 by Raimon VII (Earl of Toulouse). Since the late 20th century, the village has become a very popular tourist destination. Its initial name was Cordes, and was renamed Cordes-sur-Ciel (Ciel is the french word for sky or heaven), to indicate its height above the clouds over low-lying areas of the valley.
