La Rochelle
The city of La Rochelle, as we see it today, came into being as a small fishing village in the 10th century. By the 12th century it had become an important port town on the west coast of France. The town ofSarlat La Rochelle has been able to maintain and preserve the marks of its history.
The city is connected to the Île de Ré by a 2.9 kilometres (1.8 miles) bridge.
