DENMARK - Copenhagen
Zealand Island
Copenhagen was founded in the 10th century and became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. During the 17th century, under the reign of Christian IV, it developed into an important regional centre, consolidating its position as capital of Denmark. Copenhagen is a remarkable city with well preserved medieval streets with renowned art galleries. Copenhagen is wellknown for the spires and towers of its churches and castles. Most characteristic of all is the baroque spire of the Church of Our Saviour with its narrowing external spiral stairway that visitors can climb to the top.

Nyhavn is a waterfront and canal with many historical wooden ships, lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants.

The Little Mermaid stands on Copenhagen harbor and symbolizes the fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the story of a young mermaid who fell in love with a prince, and often came up to the edge of the water to look for her love.
