​CYPRUS - Nicosia (Lefkosia)​

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and the largest in population city of the island(250,000). It is the administrative and financial hub of the island as well as home to several universities and other educational establishments. It also hosts most foreign embassies and offshore companies (a big industry in Cyprus).

Nicosia is a divided city and its northern part is governed by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality.
The Walls of Nicosia were built by the Venetians in the 16th century replacing the old walls in order to defend the city against the Ottoman Turks.
