CROATIA - Hvar and Brac islands

Hvar is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, located off the Dalmatian coast with a size 68 kilometres (42.25 mi) long. the island of Hvar is unusual in the area for having a large fertile coastal plain. Its hillsides are covered in pine forests, with vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards and lavender fields in the agricultural areas. Hvar Town is encircled on its land-side by protective walls, and overlooked by two massive fortresses set on the hills above. The fortifications were commissioned by the Venetians in 1278, to create a haven for their fleet. Within the walls, the public buildings and palaces combine Venetian architectural style.
Brac is known as a tourist destination, for the Zlatni Rat beach in Bol, the marina in Milna, the white limestone which was used for the palace of Diocletian, the stone mason school in Pucisca.
