CROATIA - Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik was an independent merchant republic for 700 years (abolished by Napoleon in 1806) and trading with Turkey and India in the East and Africa. The city became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1815, then a part of Yugoslavia after World War II.
Dubrovnik is known as “the pearl of the Adriatic”. It really is a stunning city with an amazing Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.
