
FRANCE - Perigord - Monflanquin and
Villereal bastides and around
These bastides are located in Perigord but there are similar to the bastides around Albi and there is a "road of bastides". Monflanquin is a commune in the Lot-et-Garonne department. Built in 1256 as a military bastide town on a strategic north-south route, it changed hands several times during the Hundred Years' War.
Villereal is a bastide close to Montflanquin and Monpazier. Its structure follows the basic plan of Bastides. It has 8 main streets, set at right angles, surround the large central square. The “halle”, the main market building is spacious and with an unusual wattle and upper storey.
On the way, you can admire or visit some medieval castles.
