Kota Kinabalu
Kota Kinabalu (called KK) is the capital of the state of Sabah located on the west coast of the island. The city is a fast growing tourism destination with numerous resorts, tropical islands, lush rainforests and the famous Mount Kinabalu.
The city was previously known as Jesselton while under British Empire from the late 1800s until 1963 after Sabah became part of Malaysia. Most of Kota Kinabalu was destroyed during World War II hence there are not much pre-war heritage sites around the city.
