Osaka is the second largest metropolitan area in Japan, with a population of over 2.7 million people in its greater metropolitan area. It is the central metropolis of the Kansai region and the largest of the Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto trio.
The city's west side is open to Osaka Bay, and is otherwise completely surrounded by more than ten satellite cities.
Osaka Castle is the best known sight, although it's a concrete reconstruction.
The name “Dotonbori” generally refers both to the Dotonbori Canal and to Dotonbori Street which runs parallel to the canal’s southern bank. It is one of the most colorful areas in Osaka and an absolute must-visit location when traveling through Kansai region.
