INDONESIA - Java - Solo
Famous as a city that is fiercely proud of its Javanese traditions, the regal city of Solo, also called Surakarta, is known throughout Indonesia as a strong upholder of Javanese culture. Close to the center of the modern city is the smaller palace of the Kraton Mangkunegaran, built in 1757. Although smaller, this kraton is intact and the royal family still lives in the back of the palace, but most of the rest is open to the public for guided tours.
The temples of Sukuh and Ceto are accessibles from Solo.
