In the heyday of the 19th century Silk Road the marwari merchants of the era built their homes with the fortunes gained from agriculture, stone mines and woven fabrics.
Today some havelis are abandonned and with the relentless degradation of the artistic and architectural treasures of the Shekhawati, some owners have decided to renovate their havelis, but some will disappear forever if nothing is done quickly.
