Jaisalmer, also called "The Golden city" is a World Heritage Site. The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, crowned by a fort, which contains the palace and several Jain temples. Many of the houses and temples are finely sculptured. Jaisalmer lies in the heart of the Thar Desert (also called the Great Indian Desert) and has a population of about 90,000.The Thar Desert is a large, arid region that forms a natural boundary between India and Pakistan.
