Varanasi is the oldest city in India, and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Life is frenetic and intense, colourful and chaotic. Varanasi's old city stretches back from the Ganges to a pedestrianised maze of alleys shared today by pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles and cattle (cows, goats..). In Varanasi the traffic is amazing with so many bicycles, rickshaws, shoppers, motorcycles, tuktuks, tourists, religious pilgrims and cows.. We recommend a ride with a tuktuk to appreciate it, as sometimes walking is quite challenging in the narrow streets.
