MEXICO - Chiapas - Palenque
The Palenque ruins date from 200 BC to AD 800. After its decline, it was absorbed into the jungle but has since been excavated and restored and is now a famous archaeological site attracting thousands of visitors. With its superb jungle setting and exquisite architecture, sculpture, roof comb and bas-relief carvings that the Mayas produced, Palenque is one of the marvels of Mexico.
