NAMIBIA - Damaraland
Damaraland is a beautiful region, boasting spectacular desert landscapes, plants that live for hundreds of years and beautiful starry nights. Also bushman paintings and engravings of the region can be found at Twyfelfontein.
But the biggest attraction of Damaraland are the rare desert dwelling elephants (or Desert elephants, or Desert-adapted elephants) and the black rhinoceros.
Desert elephants are not a distinct species of elephant but are African bush elephants that have made their homes in deserts and are generally smaller.
Whilst Damaraland is a desert region with less than 100 mm of rain annually, the whole area can become green and lush with grasslands during the March to May rainy season turning the whole area into a scenic highlight. Later, the landscape can be extremely dry but it will be more easy to see the elephants (between june and september).
