BOTSWANA - Okavango Delta

The Kalahari Desert is a large semi-arid sandy savanna is covering much of Botswana but the drainage of the desert by dry valleys allows seasonally inundated pans. The only permanent river, the Okavango, flows into a delta in the northwest, forming marshes that are rich in wildlife. All the water reaching the delta is ultimately evaporated and transpired, and does not flow into any sea or ocean.
On 22 June 2014, the Okavango Delta became the 1000th site to be officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Okavango Delta supports large concentrations of animals on both a permanent and seasonal basis.
Botswana is the more expensive country for safaris in Africa and most lodges are offered for a very high rate for a basic confort.
Also, the Okavango delta is drying for many complex reasons (climate change, unsustainable land use practices, mining and irrigation projects around the delta, reduction of water flow with water projects upstream ..).
