Djibouti is situated in the Horn of Africa on the Gulf of Aden and the southern entrance to the Red Sea. Djibouti is a multi-ethnic nation with a population around 1 million, with a majority of Afars and Somalis. Djibouti is strategically located near the world's busiest shipping lanes, controlling access to the Red Sea and Indian Ocean and was formerly a french colony since the independence in 1977.
